  Pregnancy Diet

Pregnancy diets will keep you strong and healthy and help you make it through the pregnancy with good health. Eating a poor diet during pregnancy can have life long consequences on the physical and mental health of your child.

Unfortunately, for most of the women in Western countries who have access to all kinds of foods, it is easy to indulge in what that they should not eat. A good pregnancy diet is eating whole foods. Foods like legumes (peas, lentils, beans, nuts) should be eaten in combination with whole grains such as rice, wheat ,oats, barley, rye and corn. It is a good idea to eat protein foods earlier during the day as opposed to later at night because your body will process them more efficiently.

During the last few months of the pregnancy, calcium is released from the maternal bones to provide for the baby. So increasing dairy products is useful. A balanced whole food pregnancy diet is ideal. Avoid supplements as they have been known to have harmful effects.

Pregnancy requires that you pay attention to what you eat for the sake of both the mother and baby. Learn what a pregnancy diet should include and find out if exercise is safe. Being pregnant will bring a lot of changes to your daily life and one of the major changes will occur with your diet. Here are some tips to ensuring your diet is what it needs to be during pregnancy.

Remember the food pyramid? Eat more foods from the bottom of the chart, then add vegetables and protein, fruits, dairy and finally use fatty foods. Make sure you include a variety of foods in your pregnancy diet. It ensures that you're getting all the vitamins and minerals you and your baby need. The variety will prevent boredom with your diet.

While on a pregnancy diet it is important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Drinking plenty of water has many benefits including healthier skin and a general decrease in symptoms like constipation. Drinks like soda and coffee should definitely not be included while on a pregnancy diet.

It is smart to eat small frequent meals throughout the day. If you often feel nauseous or get heartburn, small frequent meals will be more tolerable while on a pregnancy diet. This also helps to keep your blood sugar levels in check making you feel a bit better.

Remember that weight gain is a necessary part of the pregnancy. Do not cut back on food without talking to your doctor. Eating well while on a pregnancy diet will make sure that the pounds gained help the pregnancy.

You will eventually eat junk but be realistic with the size of the portions you choose. However, having a few desserts occasionally even while on a pregnancy diet is not going to make or break the health of you and your baby. As long as you develop a healthy attitude towards sweets and fatty foods this will go a long way.
