Low Carbohydrate Diet
Low carbohydrate diets advertisements are seen everywhere in the media: television, radio, books and newspapers. Many of our friends seem to be on a low carbohydrate diet. People diet for two reasons, to lose weight, or improve their health. In this brief article I will describe what are low-carbohydrate diets.
There is a healthier and easier way that doesn't deprive you of the foods you love to eat- the low carbohydrate diet. Basically, a low carbohydrate diet means to eliminate most forms of carbohydrates. When you move to a low carbohydrate way of life, you replace carbohydrates with fats and proteins. Some examples of carbohydrates are sugars, breads, pastas, pretzels, crackers, fruit, vegetables, and soda and fruit juices. Yes, even fruits are carbohydrates. A can of apple juice can have more sugar than the same can of soda. By eliminating sugar and carbohydrates, we can lose weight easily and efficiently.
So, if you’re eating fewer carbohydrates, what do you eat? The answer is a high protein diet that includes foods like poultry, meats, fish, shellfish, nuts, fats and oils, dairy products, Don’t forget your vegetables! You fill the rest of your plate with either green vegetables, or low carbohydrate vegetables and fruits. In addition, there are plenty of low carbohydrate alternatives in the stores that taste just like the foods you aren't allowed to eat.
There is no need to denying yourself the foods you like while stressing calorie restriction. Instead, eat as much of the allowed foods until you're satiated. You should never feel hungry. On a low carbohydrate diet, you eat until you're full. Many low-carbohydrate diets do not limit the amount of protein intake or fats. Their fat content tends to be high.) High protein diets are quiet filling and tend to discourage overeating. Carbohydrates are changed into fat because of insulin.
Many experts believe that, most overweight people are overweight because of “hyperinsulinemia”. This means that the insulin levels in the blood are high. When you eat a meal high in carbohydrates, the pancreas produces insulin. Insulin causes fat to be stored. Low carbohydrates diets put an end to high insulin levels. When you reduce your carbohydrate intake, your insulin levels will also decrease. If you severely reduce carbohydrates, the body goes into a state called ketosis. Ketosis is the burning of fat. When your body is in a state of ketosis, your blood sugar levels stabilize, your insulin level drops, and your body burns fat for energy.
For most people, ingesting no less than 30 grams of carbohydrates a day will induce ketosis. Most people on these diets lose weight quickly. On a low carb diet, you can lose weight gradually, lower your insulin, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and stabilize your blood sugar.
If you need to lose a considerable amount of weight, a low carbohydrate diet is the most effective way.
