This is a cleansing diet with a weight loss side to it. The fruit juice in the diet is a blend of natural fruit juices, enzymes and minerals that together act as a mild laxative that are meant to clean out your system. This diet is very short, so it is easy to follow. As this is a short-term diet program, some people use this diet as the initial phase to a weight loss program that aims more for a lifestyle change.
If you want to lose one pound per week, you need to reduce your calorie intake by 3,500 calories. Most liquid diets are extremely low in calories. This means 400-800 calories a day. Liquid diets consist of a high protein shake instead of eating solid meals. Since the diet lacks the excess calories and fat calories, the body can immediately start to burn the already stored fat. The main reason these liquid diets are effective is because of their complete removal of patients from the food environment. These diets usually cause a decrease in energy.
