Diet Supplements: A Scary World
Diet supplements out there promise unachievable weight loss goals. An article in the Washington Post entitled Weight Loss Deception has this to say: “Ads for billions of dollars of diet products and services sold each year often include false, misleading and exaggerated claims that promise rapid, effortless weight loss and unachievable goals, according to a government report."
And, are you aware that diet supplements are relying on your failure to realize any weight loss gains in order to survive. Says a BBC article: “Dieting is a business with enormous financial interest in making sure it continues, even those companies that appear to help are not."
Most websites and fitness publications are affiliated with the manufacturers of the diet supplement companies who want you to believe they have the next hot product that's going to turn you into a Jennifer Lopez or Brad Pitt.
It's not to say that some diet supplement companies don't make high quality effective products - they do, but there are a lot of ineffective products out there that the public keep buying year after year, that in many cases have not ONE single shred of evidence to support their fat loss or health claims.
To find the true diet supplement that works for you, you need to filter:
Any information with a hidden agenda - like trying to sell you supplements
Endless recipes that are little more than "filler" and give little real understanding
Silly claims like "lose 20 lbs in 1 month"
Any advice that is NOT backed up by science and real world data
Before and after pics that have been achieved with use of drugs (such as anabolic steroids)
Any advice or information that is not completely proven in the field and backed up with scientific data
It's not full of links to other websites where we try to sell you more diet advice.
Neither is it written by someone with no authority to be able to offer quality advice
Or any other such nonsense.
To continue the extremely difficult mission of finding that illusive, yet effective diet supplement you need to apply the following criteria:
CRITERIA #1: Is the diet supplement based on a solid foundation of science or mere "theory"?
CRITERIA #2: Does the diet supplement manufacturer have extensive "real world" experience?
CRITERIA #3: Is it backed up by someone who has the respect of people in the industry and the scientific community?
CRITERIA #4: Is the diet supplement proven to successfully shed fat, and keep it off over the long term?
CRITERIA #5: Does the diet supplement maker truly understand the principle behind weight loss or has it been concocted by some armchair scientist?
To summarize, as long as the diet supplement stacks up against these points then you should be fine and have an outstanding chance of really finding what you’re looking for!
